The DC experience

In August 1st I will finish my summer internship at Porter Novelli. I might say that the experience surpassed my expectations. Not only I learned new concepts but I honed skills, now I am aware of many things –personally and professionally speaking.-
Although I did not expect to move to another city, I was surprised that the moving situation was not an issue at the end – despite the fact that I struggled with my first DC roommate –
Today, I assert that the best things happen when you release expectations, when you make things simple and when you are passionate about what you do.
I have met fabulous and incredible people; also I have become more selective in terms of friendships. Washington DC is a peaceful and vibrant city, full of activities and myriad things to do.

Now I am loving and enjoying DC so much. Yet, I started to miss it though.

Cuando al darme la mano tocó mi corazón...

Te pierdes en la locura del hoy, el tiempo vuela.
En un abrir y cerrar de ojos estás en ese momento que pensabas lejano.
Sin planearlo, estabas ahí en el lugar indicado.
Donde cada minuto se vuelve un segundo.
Donde la historia se teje sin una guía.

Cuando reir es una constante.
Cuando el diálogo es armonia.

Y el recuerdo se vuelve una viva imagen
de algo profundo que se comparte.
Borrando el tiempo, el espacio, el cómo o el cuándo.

Para disfrutar un hoy fugaz,
que se escapa
en un desesperado intento de crear un mañana de ensueño.

Te extraño, a cientos de kilómetros te siento.

No he podido recuperar lo que se quedó,

lo que no pudo ser y lo que desconozco si será.

Difícil ha sido pretender que puedo caminar sin ti.

sin ver tus ojos, sin reflejarme en ti

A moment of obligation

Days of anxiety, chaos and crisis have been experienced by thousands of Mexicans in the Tabasco State during the flood. People is asking for help with dispair and is wondering what will happen once the emergency is over.

Moreover, heritage was damaged, thousands of historical buildings, libraries and archeological centers will mirror and will be silent witness of the disaster.

Once the water levels come down, the challenge will rely on recovery efforts and how they will be articulated.

However, this is a moment of obligation for all; each sector will be obligated to partner to shape again the city and the communities.

Tragedies and catasthropies remember us that our planet is changing and we have to be responsible of each action that we are doing. Next time you light a cigarrette, you throw out garbage or you drive when you could walk.
Make a PAUSE and THINK......
Don´t wait until the grief of others touch you, don´t wait until you are in a difficult situation.
Today or tomorrow could be that moment of obligation.

New York University

Two months ago, I arrived to New York to become a full-time graduate student at the Wagner School of Public Service at New York University (NYU).

NYU is a center, is a place to explore and learn not because the campus is inmerse in the city, not because the active faculty, not because the engagement of the community, not because their influence and impact among the entire country and the world sounds. NYU is an institution that supports its students and believes in building community.

175 years ago, NYU was created and its known as one of the largest private universities in United States. Moreover,the multicultural environment combined with multiple opportunities for students are perfect for those who are seeking to lead and make the difference.

NYU is one of the best decisions I have made!!!

Desde otra perspectiva !!

Hace meses que no escribo, que no "posteo" para lo cual podría escribir una larga lista de razones para justificar mi falta de escritura. Sin embargo, estoy en momento crucial que se acerca cada vez más.
Este 22 de Agosto me voy a estudiar, a vivir intensamente y a aprender mucho de cada segundo que viva y respire en una ciudad tan enigmática y misteriosa, como bella y ruidosa: Nueva York.
A unos días de dejar mi país y mi ciudad me encuentro con sentimientos encontrados que van desde una gran emoción hasta la dulce melancolía.
Hoy veo las cosas desde otra perspectiva....
Todo se ha acomodado y por ello ahora si no dejaré de escribir.

Dancing!!

There are hundreds of efforts worldwide that underscore the work and committment of entrepreneurs that are solving local problems effectively.
In Brazil, Dora Andrade is a changemaker contribuiting and teaching girls-in risk that are growing up in an impoverished environment. Dora as a talented dancer, has established a Dance School to improve girl´s creativity, self-steem and confidence in order to build and fortify family bonds, reaffirm social values and change the spirit of her students.
The School is making a difference in Brazil, and hundred of girls and young women are adopting a different attitude toward their lives, in the inmediate future, these girls will be strong enough -in body and spirit- to foster change and replicate the innitiative or furthermore, start an entreprenurial social project to benefit their communities and society.
This effort is a model to emulate.

Abre los ojos

Hoy me encontré con un video de el Universal online bastante explicativo de lo que experimentan las familias de nuestro país ahora con el aumento al precio de la tortilla.

El video esboza las condiciones de vida de nuestras "fabelas" o la zona conurbada del Distrito Federal (así conocemos el término). Me llamó la atención el testimonio de las mujeres cuando dicen algo muy cierto: son invisibles ante los ojos del gobierno. Sin embargo, esas mismas personas fueron abrazadas, invitadas y cuidadas en tiempos electorales.

¿Qué nos está pasando?
La tortilla es alimento base en la dieta de millones de mexicanos; aún no comprendo las razones económicas o políticas para dejar el precio de la tortilla a la especulación. Aclaro, no estoy a favor o en contra del aumento de precio, estoy en contra de que nuestra población carezca de oportunidades e ingresos que garanticen la alimentación básica.

No es una cuestión de subsidios, de bajar el precio o de argumentar el precio del maíz está por los cielos a nivel internacional; es una cuestión de que los mexicanos contemos con empleo digno, salarios justos y un gobierno eficiente.

Hoy en día con 11 pesos puedes comprar una hamburguesa, en algunos lugares el kilo de tortilla hoy se encuentra a 15 pesos; algunos se preguntan porque nuestro país está incrementado el índice de obesidad año con año.

Es tiempo de abrir los ojos y actuar, ¿no crees?
